Rhodochrosite

This is Colorado’s state mineral, Rhodochrosite. Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral with deep red to rose pink colors. Like calcite, it has strong cleavage in three directions. It is commonly found with copper, lead and zinc ores. Found in Sweet Home mines outside Alma, Colorado.

This unique piece has amethyst, hematite and pyrite also grown on matrix with the Rhodochrosite.

This piece is 5″ in length, 2.5″ wide and 1.5″ in depth.
